About the Electronic ARTrium

Electronic Atrium is a Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) team at Georgia Tech dedicated to designing and developing an interactive art installation. The team's goal is to create an immersive experience that engages participants through sensor-driven dynamic art, combining visuals, sound, and mechatronics that respond to user movement. Watch an overview of the project and vision on our YouTube video.

The team was split into split into four different subteams:

  • Electromechanical (EM)
  • Sensor Processing and Networking (SPN)
  • Visual Art and Sound Design (VASD)
  • Web and Social Media Design (WSMD)

My Work on the Project

Mechatronic Eye Tracking

Mechatronic and model of Cappy the Caterpillar shown together

In my first semester (Fall 2024) on the EM team, the assigned task was to develop a system for Cappy the animatronic's eyes to be able to track the player based on the pose detection camera system that was being developed by the SPN team. The eyes that had horizontal and vertical ranges of motion.
The project was then handed off in the Spring 2025 semester to another EM member to finalize while I was assigned to a part of the project deemed more pivotal by the project coordinator which was the light system seen here.

About "Bee My Guide" - The ARTrium's Second Show

The ARTrium's second exhibit focusing on:

  • integrating art and engineering
  • user interaction with the exhibit doesn't involve any wearable technology
  • having a full narrative to support the cohesiveness of the different sections of the exhibit
Players were taken through four sections where they would gather a number clue in each of the first three sections and input the code in the final section to help Mr. Bee unlock the door and return to his hive. Each section consisted of a game for the player to complete with the aid of a mechatronic animal.
The exhibit was displayed two times:
  1. Exhibit 1: At the Ferst Center for the Arts from February 11, 2025 to February 25, 2025
  2. Exhibit 2: At the Georgia Tech Conference Center for the Cyber-Physical Radio (CyPhyRa) Week Conference from April 22, 2025 to April 24, 2025.
